Prayer

Hey All!

I love the time we all get in prayer groups! It's such a blessing just to share praise reports and share how we might pray for one another because it builds our fellowship and our communion with our Heavenly Father.

But I realized though as I'm seeking to instruct our group on how to pray and why we pray, and how to develop a life of prayer and communion with God throughout the week that my off-the-top-of-my-head knowledge in this area is lacking. I was convicted this week to turn to God's word to see how and why and for what He teaches us to pray. I realized it's no quick process, but one we truly learn more about throughout our whole lives. But i thought, "what a blessing it would be for all of us to really make an effort to learn about prayer! As Christians we would be better followers of Christ and in turn more equipped to disciple one another."

I found in my ESV Study Bible a article on prayer and decided to read some of it to out group tonight. It's called "Reading the Bible in Prayer and Communion with God." It presents a great overview on prayer, including the wonder that is prayer, God's purpose with prayer, and other greatly helpful observations. Here's the link. (http://www.esvstudybible.org/images/excerpt-reading.pdf) It's a great tool!

So if you like me find yourself in your prayer groups wanting to take full advantage of the amazing gift that God has given us in prayer, join me in making a conscious effort to search the scriptures about prayer in times of devotion, to the praise and glory of God.

  1. Galen, I love this idea man! If there is one area of our daily christian lives that gets the back burner it is prayer. Yet we are called to pray without ceasing. Thank you for this!
